RICKY SKINNER
I am not your typical engineering student. Where I do excel is with my responsibility and determination to get the job done correctly. I may have to work at it harder than others, but it is the hard work and the challenge that drives me to succeed. My name is Ricky Skinner and I am a senior at Central Washington University studying mechanical engineering technology. I will be graduating n June of 2015.
My work experience has prepared me for a career as an engineer. For my senior project I am working for H.F. Hauff Co Inc. in Yakima. I am working with a group of two others to design a prototype gearbox that will be implemented onto one of Hauff’s Victair Mistifier orchard and vineyard sprayers. The design requires a unique collinear input and output shaft to power one of two counter rotating fans. The project focuses on lean manufacturing and is modeled using SolidWorks. The gearbox is currently being tested to ensure all design requirements have been met. During the summer of 2014 I worked at Toray Composites America as a Technical Engineer Intern. My experience here consisted of gaining valuable project management skills and designing several new ways to solve problems. Along with that, I gained knowledge in process flow and organization, and valuable lessons out of the school of hard knocks as opposed to a textbook.
My schooling within the field of engineering consists of AutoCAD, engineering project management, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, energy systems, and heat transfer. I am also certified in SolidWorks and have a comprehensive understanding of machining processes and CNC programming, along with hydraulic and pneumatic circuit design and operation. I am also confident with mechanical design and metallurgy and material processed. While attending Central Washington University I have been on the Dean’s list for 5 quarters and am a member of ASME. In addition, I have my Associates of Arts degree from Pierce Community College in Puyallup, Washington.

My name is Gabe Bruno and I am graduating in June from Central Washington University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology.
I have always been mechanically inclined and a natural builder. For that reason, I started my path to engineering in the hands-on environment of the City College of San Francisco Automotive Mechanics program. After a year and a half, my instructor told me I was too smart and too young to become a mechanic. He pushed me to get an engineering degree. I took his advice, and with help from a football scholarship I joined the CWU MET program.
Football has demanded a great deal of commitment and discipline over the last four years. I feel the skills I learned on the field help me in my pursuit of engineering. I’ve learned to be a leader and what it takes to become a great one. A great leader must be a team player who demonstrates a devoted and disciplined work ethic, strong interpersonal communication skills, and a clear focus to execute common goals. My teammates felt I exemplified these characteristics, when they voted me team captain in 2011.
While in the MET program, my enthusiasm and mind has been stimulated in my Thermo-Fluid Mechanics, Strengths of Materials, and Mechanical Design courses. Throughout the past years of academic engineering courses I feel my experience has been better informed because of the practical hands-on knowledge gained through my automotive schooling in junior college.
I was introduced to the mechanical contracting industry this year when I worked on the MCA student competition. I picked up estimating and reading blue prints in only a few weeks with some guidance and help from industry professionals at Auburn Mechanical (Auburn, WA). It is the culture of the Mechanical Contractor’s Association of America that drew me in. The industry and the organization are full of people who are willing to help young employees advance their professional careers, as long as they are devoted to learning and become great professionals in the industry; this has greatly impacted my decision to pursue a career in mechanical contracting. I have declined job offers from other industries, because of the future I see for myself in mechanical contracting.
I interned in the foundry industry, with North Star Casteel (Seattle, WA), during my summer before senior year. I then worked in the agriculture machinery industry, with H.F. Hauff Company (Yakima, WA), over the course of my senior year for my senior project. I was new to both industries before I started work with them, but in a short time I was learned the ropes and excelled in my projects.
Overall, my passion as a young mechanical engineer along with my willingness to learn new technologies and natural leadership skills make me an ideal candidate for your company. Thank you for your time and consideration.
